International diplomas

As part of our dedication to quality language-learning, we provide our students and external candidates the possibility of sitting diploma exams in order to certify your level in French.


THE DEADLINE FOR THE NEXT DELF/DALF EXAMINATIONS IN JUNE IS 11th MAY!

If you want to study in France or emigrate to Canada or Québec, you will need to certify your level in French.
- Universitites and Grandes écoles in France require the DALF C1 or the TCF.
- If you want to emigrate to Canada/ Québec, you will need to prove that you have at least a B1 level (intermediate level). The Canadian Immigration services require a TEF (Test d’évaluation du français); For Québec, you will need the TEF-aQ.
NEW! Last December the French Government has passed a law requiring all applicants to French Nationality to sit a language test. The minimum level required to obtain French nationality is a B1 of the CEFRL. The Institut français d’Ecosse offers the possibility to sit the new e-TEF épreuves orales in order to prove your level (see 4.below).

1. DELF & DALF diplomas

The DELF (Diplôme d’Etudes en Langue Française) and DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française) are official diplomas awarded by the French Ministry for Education certifying your level in French. The DELF/DALF diplomas are recognised throughout the world and are valid for life!
Why take a DELF or a DALF examination?
- to justify your skills in French where and when you want;
- to measure your progress and add value to your French;
- to enhance your professional opportunities (recruitment, promotion).
- to be able to study in a French University or High School (the DALF C1 and sometimes the DELF B2 avoids the need for an entrance test);

2. TCF (Test de Connaissance du français)

The TCF tests are devised by the CIEP which are awarded by the French Ministry of Education. The TCF certificates are valid for two years. This test is particularly useful for visa and job applications, as well as for entry into certain universities and Instituts de Sciences Politiques.

3. e-TEF (Test d’évaluation de français sur ordinateur)

The e-TEF is an electronic test developed by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Paris (CCIP) and recognised by the French Ministry of Education. The certificate awarded is valid for 2 years. The TEF test is required for candidates to emigration to Canada (except Québec => see below e-TEFaQ for Québec).

19 June 2012 (deadline for application: 30 May 2012)
19 October 2012 (deadline for application: 30 September 2012)

Compulsory test (only): £110

4. e-TEF pour naturalisation (Test sur ordinateur) This test which is developed by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Paris (CCIP) is divided into two parts: Oral comprehension and oral production. The oral comprehension is done on a computer at the Institut français.
