Auld Alliance Contemporary Exhibitions 2015

From 1 to 31 October 2015

We are delighted to welcome the Auld Alliance Contemporary Exhibitions (AACE) for its second year running.

Nine visual artists are taking part in this two-centred Franco-Scottish show run conjointly at the Institut français and at the E.D.S. Gallery in Great King Street throughout the month.

AACE exhibits the works of established French artists alongside works from young up-and-coming Scottish artists. This year the six young Scottish artists, including RSA New Contemporary exhibitors, will show their works alongside three successful 1980s graduates from Paris.

This blend of cross-cultural and generational duos combines the architectural landscapes of Megan Rea with the mathematical forests of her French counterpart Margat to create a quasi-physical impact upon the viewer. At the same time, Hélène Lhote’s meccano stalactite sculptures complement the vibrant stalagmite works of her Scottish counterpart Flo Gordon. Moving on, Paella Chimicos’ ubiquitous pink spiral-headed character is juxtaposed with the ever-changing central characters of Jacob Kerray’s powerful paintings, while the intricacy of Ross MacRae’s drawings complement the equally intricate, playful paintings of Lauren Bowman, both bringing in elements of Scotland to their works. Finally this year’s wild card, Matt Sloe, shows illustrations that create a link across cultures and artists.
