A look at and discussion of the work of some of the greatest draughtsmen in French art: Poussin, Watteau, Ingres, Cézanne and Seurat, comparing, in some cases, the spontaneity of their drawings with a finished painting.
Hopefully this will whet our appetite for the real drawings in the National Gallery of Scotland’s current exhibition ’French Drawings: Poussin to Seurat’ to which the Institute is associated (until 1st May 2011).
