Honoré Daumier (1808-1879) was one of France’s earliest and greatest caricaturists. According to Baudelaire, Daumier had a ’sure gift of observation’ which he used to great effect, covering the political and social life of Paris during a turbulent period in history. Our Café Art will consider some of Daumier’s satirical and humorous themes.
The Royal Academy’s exhibition in London: 26 October 2013 to 26 January 2014, will span Daumier’s work from 1830-1879 giving some in-depth ’visions of Paris’ at this time.
