Monday 10 November 2014 17:30-19:00

La France face à la guerre (1914 - 1918)

On 4 August 1914, 4 days after France has declared war on Germany, the President of the French Republic, Raymond Poincaré calls for the ‘Union Sacrée’ in an address to the Assemblies. The funerals of Jean Jaures, leader of the pacifist movement, are held on the same day.

But hopes for a short war are quickly swiped away and the conflict drags on. How long could this truce last?
