La Deuxième République (1848 -1852)
The French Second Republic starts on November 4th 1848 after its Constitution is voted. It was proclaimed by Alphonse de Lamartine on February 1848. The Second Republic only lasted four years. It was however a remarkable period as it was during this time that slavery was abolished the universal manhood suffrage instituted.
