Café Histoire: Les élections présidentielles en France - des origines à la Ve République

Monday 14 May 2012 17:30-19:00

Institut français d’Ecosse

13 Randolph Crescent Edinburgh EH3 7TT

As the French elect their new President of the Republic on May 6th, the last Café Histoire before the summer break offers an opportunity to go back over 164 years of Presidential system. The first presidential elections were held in 1848 and won by Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte, whose first mandate was a traumatising experience. Despite these first hectic years, the presidential system had survived and developed according to the succession of governments.
