Cinéma: Abrahadabra + Post-Show Discussion

Wednesday 16 January 2019 18:45-20:30

The cinéma programme at the Institut français d’Ecosse screens a new film every Wednesday at 2:00pm and 6:45pm. These events are free, but for members only. We invite you to book early and if you are not yet a member of the Institut français d’Ecosse, we invite you to join. Our film this week is Abrahadabra by Yannik Ruault.

Please note that this week’s film will only be screened at 6:45pm.

Synopsis :
On a ranch-style farm in southwest France, Jane Cavalieri, 14, lives protected by the love of her father Ludovic and her grandfather Papifou. The sudden death of her father, who lost his life in a terrorist attack, plunges Jane into a waking dream.

The film has received praise for its thoughtful and poetic treatment of post-traumatic stress, . A peaceful film, Ruault’s DIY film aesthetic (it was filmed on a tablet) examines the pain felt by those who have lost loved ones in terrorist attacks with warmth and realism. In his cinematic vision, "the digital world makes an immaterial connection with human souls".

Starring Noémie Glairacq, Christian Cazenave, Jean-Pierre Massat, and Nicolas Dubaele
