What is the Concours de la Francophonie?

The Institut français d’Écosse launches le Concours de la Francophonie, a national school competition to encourage all young French learners and their teachers around Scotland to celebrate the international day of la francophonie.

  • Who can take part? All Scottish primary and secondary schools offering French lessons may enter this competition by submitting a short video of classroom activity in French.
  • 4 Categories: P1/P4 - P5/P7 - S1/S3 - S4/S6
  • Eligible entries: A video in French of maximum 4 minutes (classroom activities: conversation, poetry, songs, etc - recorded online). The learners should speak/sing clearly in French. The level of French will be adapted to the learners. We will also value the participation of ALL learners in the class and the creativity of the piece.
    • In primary, you may want to film a regular activity in French: a song you have prepared in class, a game, or a small dialogue etc.
    • In secondary, students need to show their communication skills in French and may want to conduct interviews in their school or create a short drama.
  • How to take part?
Send your video by email to ife.francophonie gmail.com before a fixed date. If you missed the 2021 Concours, don’t worry it will come back in 2022!
Please name your file(s) with the name of the school and classes involved. The best way is to use a file transfer website such as WeTransfer or others (we do not have GLOW access and will not be able to access those files).
  • Prizes:
    • First prize in each category: invitation to attend a French immersion day (TBC, pending government regulations) in Edinburgh to celebrate the international week of La Francophonie at the French Institute. Transport and lunch for the entire classroom will be offered. Winners will take part in French workshops organised at the French Institute and will receive a selection of French books.
    • Second prize in each category: a selection of French books.

This school competition is sponsored by TOTAL E&P, the Franco Scottish Society and is organised in partnership with the Alliance française de Glasgow, SALT, SCILT, the University of Edinburgh.

Previous edition reports are available here for 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017.
