Fringe 2012

Elephant man

From 3 to 24 August 2012

Institut français d’Ecosse

A show by Compagnie du Fomenteur (France)

After his first Fringe experience in Two Johnnies Live Upstairs in 2011 (**** Scotsman), Benoit Hattet returns to the Institut français as Joseph C Merrick, the famous British monster better known as Elephant Man. In this intimate and interactive show, you are invited to the creature’s room and welcomed by his nurse (Isabelle Bouvrain). She is a bit tyrannical but also completely devoted to him.
Joseph is impatient to meet you. But control your emotions! And keep smiling... Joseph is a very sensitive creature. Feel free to ask him some questions, he will answer with plenty of humour…

Benoit Hattet has been nominated for Best Actor in The Stage Awards for Acting Excellence 2012

’Hattet is electric at Merrick, a wheezing and twisted form with a witty, passionate and intelligent human soul.’ (The Stage)

’Hattet may seem like a very brave man to step into a part that has already been owned by David Bowie and John Hurt, but after you see him, it will be his Joseph C Merrick that remains in your mind’ (Herald)
