CANCELLED Francophonie 2020: Hochelaga, Terre des Âmes

Thursday 19 March 17:30-21:00

Please note that this event is now CANCELLED.

In plus to our cinema programme that takes place every Wednesday at 2:00 pm and 6:45 pm, at the Institut français d’Ecosse, we will be hosting a special movie screening within our Fête de la Francophonie 2020 events programme from Francophone countries. We invite you to book early and if you are not yet a member of the Institut français d’Ecosse, we invite you to join. Our film for the Fete de la Francophonie 2020 is Hochelaga, Terre des Âmes.

Synopsis:
Former Iroquois village of Hochelaga, Montreal sees the collapse of a football field revealing an invaluable archaeological site. This discovery opens a real book of images relating the arrival of Jacques Cartier, the colonisation of New France, the rebellions of 1837. Hochelaga, land of souls is a great ambitious project offering much more than a mere movie would: it takes us to the pages of 750 years of history. It stands as a necessary work of memory that places the First Nations at the heart of Montreal’s journey through history.

About François Girard:
François Girard is a filmmaker and an opera, theater and circus director. As a director, he has notably signed the feature films and 32 short films on Glenn Gould, The Red Violin, Silk, and Boychoir, as well as Peter Gabriel’s Secret World, a concert film winner of Grammy.
