Film and Performance: KNOCK - presented by Stéphanie Goud

Thursday 24 February 18:00-20:00

We are delighted to host a special event that brings together two arts: cinema and theatre.

Stéphanie Goud from Edinburgh Bookshop will be with us for a presentation of the film "Knock" by Guy Lefranc et Louis Jouvet (1950), with an emphasis on the movie. During the event, there will be parts of the movie screened and amateur comedians (our students and students of the University of Edinburgh) who will be performing live some moments of the film. The event will be held in French.

Knock is a French comedy from 1951, an adaptation of Jules Roman’s satirical play written in 1923.

Synopsis

Saint-Maurice, an ordinary peaceful village, lived healthily so much so that the local doctor’s practice was scant. But that was before Dr. Parpalaid retired and was replaced by a charlatan by the name of Knock. A real genius this one, for he soon managed to persuade everyone that they were ill. And not only didn’t they resent him but they even loved their physician, who made a fortune and brought prosperity to the village by turning it into a big hospital.
