Impressionism

From 12 April 2014 to 10 May 2014

French pop star Claude Francois - originator of the song ’My Way’, known in its original form as ’Comme d’Habitude’ - and Emile Zola’s novel ’The Masterpiece’ are the main references for this new solo exhibition of work which reflects on fantasy and projection.

In the summer of 2013, Kristian Smith spent a month on residency in Clermont Ferrand, France supported by David Dale Gallery, Glasgow and Artistes En Residence Clermont Ferrand, France.

Kristian Smith (lives and works in Edinburgh) graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2011 (BA Hons Intermedia Art). Recent group exhibitions include ’Oblique’ at David Dale Gallery, Glasgow (2013), ’Catalyst Arts’ at Belfast Photo Festival (2013),’Anonyme Zeichner’, Kunstverein Tiergarten, Berlin (2013) and ’Horizon Sprawl’, Ormston House, Limerick (2012).

The exhibition is accompanied by a film event at 6.00pm on Tuesday 22 April at which there will be a screening of ’Cloclo’ (2012), a biopic of Claude Francois’s life, directed by Florent Emilio Siri (with English subtitles).

The exhibition is supported by Creative Scotland.
