La Tête et les Jambes Talks

’La Tête et les Jambes’ Talks start from the reflections that Henri Desgrange, media magnate and founder of the Tour de France, developed in his training handbook La Tête et les Jambes (Head and Legs, 1894): the essential necessity of mental strength and strategy as well as a good physical condition to be an authentic ‘champion’.
What does a man need to be a ‘champion’ nowadays? ‘La tête et les jambes’ obviously, but what else? Charisma? Money? Political statements? Doping or even mechanical assistance?

On Lance Armstrong

’We revolutionized how to train, how to build morale, the course previews, how to race, the way the sport is sold and the way how to carry that story around the world.’ This is how Lance Armstrong described his own legacy when officially quitting competitions in 2011. Reporter at Libération Jean-Louis Le Touzet will discuss the Tour de France’s ‘false prophet’ and offer a inside view of how Libération covers cycling – and its duplicity.

Jean-Louis Le Touzet is an iconic French sportswriter and the laureate of many awards for his covering of sailing and cycling competitions. He recently joined the international news desk at Libération and covered the Arab spring. Le Touzet was recently awarded 2012 "Prix Louis Hachette pour la presse écrite" for his article on the Khadafi’s allegedly killed daughter Hana in Libération.
