Mathieu, 15, is an apprentice in Paul’s small dairy farm in the Haut Doubs, at the heart of Jura. Beyond the learning of Paul’s working methods, Mathieu must find his place in the family. With work come some strong bonds and Mathieu learns with Paul what is not taught in a classroom.
Between fiction and documentary film (all characters exist in real life), L’Apprenti is a coming-of-age story about transmission and surrogate family bonds.
