The award-winning film-maker Sylvain Chomet is set to receive an honorary degree from the University of Edinburgh in November during the run of the 20th edition of the French Film Festival UK of which he remains patron. To celebrate Chomet’s visit to Edinburgh on this occasion, we put back on the big screen his animated hit.
A French illusionist finds himself out of work and, in search of paying gigs, treks from Paris to the Scottish Western Isles to Edinburgh – acquiring, along the way, a young travelling companion who sincerely believes in his magical abilities.
L’Illusionniste is Chomet’s second feature film after Les Triplettes de Belleville and is based on an unproduced script written by French director Jacques Tati in 1956.
