Vive the [R]évolution: Poems in translation

Friday 17 October 2014 19:00-20:00

Vive the [R]évolution returns with a new series of poetry nights à propos translation.

In exploring the theme of translation, Lila Matsumoto will perform a series of poetry translations using voice, violin, and image. For the latter part of the evening, she will be joined by artist Mairi Lafferty who has created a visual translation of one of Lila’s poems.

Lila was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1984 and grew up in Florida and New York. She came to Scotland in 2009 and is currently living in Edinburgh where she is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Edinburgh researching experimental poetry bookmaking. Lila edits the little magazine SCREE and runs a poetry and music performances series under its banner. Her work has been featured in places such as Jacket, anything anymore anywhere, and Archive of the Now. Lila is especially interested in interdisciplinary collaborative work and has performed with artists such as Mairi Lafferty, Rocio von Jugenfeld, and Richard Taylor.
