Book into a workshop to explore the basics of tapestry and weave a self-portrait or a portrait of your friend, a family member, a celebrity... and contribute to a communal work that will be displayed in the gallery for the time of the exhibition.
Tapestry can be a simple process and in weaving, you are drawing with wool. Working freely, you will establish the basic shapes of the shoulder and neck and gradually your portrait will emerge from the base upwards. By breaking down the portrait into these simple areas, the potential of drawing and the excitement of tapestry take over. Your portrait will evolve and alter as you weave and cover the warps.
By focusing on this particular aspect of tapestry you will explore the potential and the limitations of the medium. As the communal work evolves you may also be influenced by the weaving that others have done.
Large Communal Artwork
Your tapestry will form part of a large communal work which will gradually evolve and be completed at the end of the last workshop. This will allow each participant to perceive their work in a new, exciting context as well as to reflect on the vitality of their contribution within the collective piece.
Every workshop is 2 hours long and run independently. It can be booked on its own or as a package. Advanced booking is compulsory.
