Thirty-six second year pupils from Perth Academy have created an exhibition that is the selected outcome of a session's work focusing on interdisciplinary learning.

The project was designed to deliver an enriched learning experience, with the intention of encouraging and reinforcing an engagement with French language and culture. In addition, its purpose was to foster an interest in visual, aural and verbal communication, within a creative context.

The lessons involved many learning experiences, but playing with language was the overarching theme, and this playfulness is integral to the work which was produced.

The pupils have been fully involved in curating and promoting their exhibition. Cards created from the artworks have been handmade by the pupils and are available for sale in aid of Médecins Sans Frontières. The paintings may also be purchased in aid of this charity.

Series of dance workshops around French language and its expressions.

Graduated from Ecole Supérieure d'Etudes Chorégraphiques and Centre National de Danse Contemporaine, choregrapher Myriam Hervé-Gil has received many awards including Volinine and Groningem. As a teacher she strives to develop the inventiveness of each student.

For her visit in Edinburgh, she proposes workshops (4 hours) for beginners playing with French expressions involving the body – ‘avoir la tête sur les épaules' (to be levelheaded), ‘mettre sa tête à couper' (to swear to death), ‘avoir l'estomac dans les talons' (to be famished)...

Although considered by most as an American music, Jazz has a long tradition in France and many French artists such as Michel Pettruciani and Erik Truffaz have made it their own. Many renowned jazz clubs and jazz festivals have also spread out around the country to celebrate this eclectic musical style, from Le Caveau de la Huchette in Paris to the ‘Jazz in Marciac' and ‘Jazz sous les pommiers' festivals among others. Join us to discuss these artists, uncover their work and borrow their albums.

Café Art: Paris vu par les artistes à travers les siècles

From the Limbourg Brothers in the early 15th century to artists such as Albert Marquet in the 20th, Paris has been a rich source of subject matter. In the 21st century, these artists have provided us with a wonderful visual record of the dramatic changes occurring in the capital over the years. Raguenet, Renoir, Monet, Pissarro, Marquet and Signac all chose to paint the Pont Neuf. We shall look at their works and some of the other features of Paris that have appealed to and inspired artists.

South-East wines & nibbles

Given that wines from the South-East of France extend passed the Rhone Valley, with the help of some red, white and rosee wines, we will be speaking about the great diversity of wines this region has to offer. We will be discovering wines from the Languedoc, Corse and Province regions. We will explain how rosee wines are produced (in slightly more detail than the common myth of ‘a mix between red and white'!) and well will be speaking about the choice of a wine bottle (aside from being a simple container!) To celebrate our last event before the summer, this evening will be accompanied by various cheeses and french nibbles, specially chosen to go perfectly with the different types of wines being tasted.

In this musical show, presented at Avignon Festival (2010 official programme), actor Pierre Baux and cellist Vincent Courtois give life to 70s rock'n'roll New York through dialogues, memories, dreams and digressions collected by Legs McNeil and Gillian McCain in Please Kill Me. This uncensored oral history of punk played on stage is haunted by Jim Morrison, Patti Smith, Allen Ginsberg, Iggy Pop, Philippe Marcadé.
Baux and Courtois have been successfully working together on very different repertoires – Grimm, Borges, Andersen, Kafka – but they really rock here when celebrating the birth of a new, crazy, revolting, fascinating music!

A show by Collectif Aïe Aïe Aïe (France)

After playing with fluffy bunnies in Two Johnnies Live Upstairs in 2011 (**** Scotsman), the French puppeteers from Rennes-based collective Aïe Aïe Aïe bring back their nuttiness to the Fringe with a new show starring a ‘biche' (hind) and a ‘lapin' (rabbit, again).
In this silent vaudeville set on a table, couples get together and couples break up in a dance of manipulated objects. In tune with the music the mixed duet knit with four hands short love stories, sometimes bucolic, sometimes playful and sometimes tragic, but always bursting with creativity and ingenuity!

After his first Fringe experience in Two Johnnies Live Upstairs in 2011 (**** Scotsman), Benoit Hattet returns to the Institut français as Joseph C Merrick, the famous British monster better known as Elephant Man. In this intimate and interactive show, you are invited to the creature's room and welcomed by his nurse (Isabelle Bouvrain). She is a bit tyrannical but also completely devoted to him.
Joseph is impatient to meet you. But control your emotions! And keep smiling... Joseph is a very sensitive creature. Feel free to ask him some questions, he will answer with plenty of humour…
