Rarely has the military cooperation between the United Kingdom and France been as successful as nowadays since the last 65 years. Since the summit of Saint-Malo in 1999, Britain and France have led the efforts to shape the European security and defence policy. We embarked on a number of common external actions where we fought alongside, in the Balkans, in Africa (most recently to fight piracy in the gulf of Aden), Afghanistan and now Libya.
The United Kingdom and France signed a wide ranging military cooperation treaty on security and defence during the last Franco British summit in Lancaster House (London) on the 2nd of November 2010. We intend to go further during our next summit to be held in France on the 2nd of December this year.
