Cinetopia Salons : EDEN by Mia Hansen-Løve + French House DJ set from Ann Tweak

Thu 18 Jun

★★★★★ “The perfect mix of music and melancholia. Mia Hansen-Løve’s tremendously stylish film about a Paris DJ coolly shuns a traditional narrative to move in time with its own ambient beat.” The Guardian

Join us for Cinetopia Salon #4 a cultural evening of apéro, arts, cinema and good conversation!

Come early for our apéritif hour with a drinks bar and complementary nibbles before the film, a chance to mingle, relax and start the evening in true Salon style.

Paris in the early 1990s. Paul is a teenager on the edge of something extraordinary: a wave of underground garage music that transforms dingy clubs into cathedrals of pure feeling. He and his friends form a DJ collective, plunge into the nightlife, and watch their raves grow into something like a grand democracy of bliss. Among the faces in the crowd: a young Daft Punk.

Based on the real experiences of her brother and co-writer Sven, Mia Hansen-Løve’s fourth feature follows Paul across two decades, from the euphoric early nights to the slow erosion of circumstance, financial pressure, and changing times. In a swell of colour and beats, Hansen-Løve captures the texture of that defining Paris era: beautiful faces, impulsive movement, cascading light, and music that seems to hold everything together for as long as it plays.

Eden is a film about what it feels like to be young enough to believe the music will never stop. Before the screening, Liam Schell, guest curator of this event, will introduce the film. Following the screening, Ann Tweak takes over with a French house DJ set inspired by the sounds and spirit of Eden.
