Listed by The Guardian as the 16th-best crime film of all time, Claude Chabrol’s La Cérémonie follows the Lelièvres, a bourgeois family living near a Breton village. The new maid, the efficient but somewhat odd Sophie, befriends Jeanne, the local postwoman, drawing the two women into the family home. Their alliance turns into a savage rebellion, beyond good and evil. An adaptation of A Judgment in Stone by Ruth Rendell (1977).
