Our Land

Supported by Institut français, CNC and Aide aux Cinémas du Monde, Lucrecia Martel’s first feature documentary examines the 2009 killing of Javier Chocobar, a 68-year-old member of the Chuschagasta Indigenous community in northwest Argentina, who was shot while defending his ancestral land. With a ravishing, at times vertiginous visual approach to filming the natural beauty of the contested land, Martel pays cinematic tribute to people whom others systematically tried to erase from history.

The 12th Edition of IberoDocs presents documentary cinema as a space for discovery, connection and conversation bringing international stories to Edinburgh while creating opportunities for audiences across Scotland to encounter new perspectives, filmmakers and cultures. This year’s programme explores family as something we inherit and something we build through friendship, solidarity and community. The selected documentaries reflect on collective resistance, revealing how people come together to face uncertainty and imagine more hopeful futures.
