In December 1914, an unofficial Christmas truce on the Western Front allows soldiers from opposing sides of the First World War to gain insight into each other’s way of life. A historical drama based on a true incident when the Germans, French, and Scottish fraternize and face each other from their respective trenches. The cast includes Diane Kruger (Troy), Daniel Bruhl (Good Bye Lenin!), and Gary Lewis (Billy Elliot).

To celebrate Europe Day 2024 and Franco-German friendship, we will have the pleasure to welcome Dr Emile Chabal, historian and reader at the School of History, Classics and Archaeology of the University of Edinburgh, for a historical introduction. The screening will be followed by a live-stream Q&A with the film director Christian Carion and a cocktail in cooperation with the German Consulate General Edinburgh.
