When and how did American artists discover Giverny, the small village north-east of Paris, where Monet and his family settled in 1883? How did the influence of Monet and the places where he painted affect their own ideas of painting nature: for instance, working on the same topic at different times of the day and in different seasons of the year? What were the effects on the village itself of this influx of American visitors and indeed on Monet?

This presentation by Agnes Ness will attempt to answer these and any other questions which may arise, showing many paintings to illustrate the answers.

Agnes Ness attended Trinity Academy, Edinburgh, and has MA Honours degree in French and History of Art from Edinburgh University.
