Meet French writer Elise Hugueny-Léger for a talk on her first creative writing non-fiction, Twenty twenty: petites traversées franco-britanniques, which came out with Editions Créaphis in 2024.

A tale of the constant in-between, between one country, France, and another, the United Kingdom, between two cultures, but also between the outside world and the world of thoughts and memories. Under the guise of a small personal diary or life story of a forty-year-old woman, Élise Hugueny-Léger, with a dual identity and a fragmented life story, Twenty Twenty contains a reflection on everyday life, that of the author but also on the daily lives of millions of French and British people in the 21st century and its major crises.

A sociology of current events from the 1980s to 2020 unfolds through the singular and unique perspective of this woman torn between two spaces and two times, inhabiting the world in her own way, through her peregrinations between France and the United Kingdom, their two ways of speaking, reading, hearing, writing, and even dreaming, watching the landscapes pass by through the train window. “The landscape is nothing more than time that we travel through with our eyes.”
