Reading group “Un perdant magnifique” by Florence Seyvos

Once a month, the reading group meets up to discuss a couple of books selected in advance (from classical to contemporary French literature) and discovers other members’ views on them. Meetings take place at the Institut français d’Écosse, usually on the last Tuesday of the month.

About the book:

Un perdant magnifique is a 2025 novel by Florence Seyvos that won the Prix Livre Inter 2025. The book is a fictional story about a charismatic but sickly stepfather named Jacques, who lives with his stepdaughter Anna and her family in Le Havre during the 1980s. It’s described as a portrait of an eccentric and unpredictable man whose grand schemes and illusions shape the family’s life.
