Press Release – 9 July 2025

This August, for the 730th anniversary of the Auld Alliance, the Institut français d’Écosse will transform into a vibrant crossroads of French and Scottish creativity with the 14th edition of the “Vive le Fringe!” Festival — a proud contribution to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

A whimsical world of puppetry, music, and nature comes to life in Up and About Theatre’s Heebie Jeebies. Created for children under 6, this unique performance blends multilingual storytelling (Scottish Gaelic, French, and English), puppetry, and original live music to inspire a deeper connection to nature and one another, while raising awareness of environmental issues for young audiences.

After a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2024, Mythography return with their urgent and haunting production of Jean Anouilh’s Antigone. Irreverent and full of rage, this bold rewriting of an eternal myth asks questions that would shatter our world. This is a story about youth on the brink -about the splintering world we’ve inherited and our struggle to make sense of it all.

Scottish musical innovator Lomond Campbell will be presenting MŮO, an immersive audiovisual installation harnessing cosmic rays. These intergalactic events will literally shape the soundscape, light and visuals in real time, inviting the audience to contemplate the invisible force of the surrounding cosmos and the fragility of our own existence here on Earth.

Finally, the festival will receive the dazzlingly charismatic Arnaud Askoy, who brings Chanson Francaise icon Jacques Brel to life in a stunning musical tribute. The Brel Promise combines striking vocal and physical resemblance with original arrangements by Roland Romanelli to recreate the magic of Brel’s era!
