The Institut français d’Écosse is very proud to be partnering with Yannik Ruault, film director and French teacher at the Institut français d’Écosse for the release of his new short film “Silhouettes“, which has been officially selected for the 2025 Edinburgh Short Film Festival!

“Silhouettes” will be presented at the Edinburgh Filmhouse on 15 November at 7:30pm.

SYNOPSIS

Since she’s gone, the consul tries to remember her, their tender memories, a poem by Eluard, a 3D film session, a kung-fu session… fading like retinal prints.

SILHOUETTES explores the fragility of memory and the impossibility of retaining what fades. Some sequences are created using the innovative multi-layered pictures technique, separately treating the layers that make up the picture – the three RGB (Red, Green, Blue) colours, light (gamma) and transparency (alpha). This approach gives the film a unique texture. The visual material itself becomes a metaphor for memory: unstable, fragmented, yet strangely persistent.
