Weekend of dance at the Institut français d’Écosse

Join us for a weekend of dance workshops, a ball and film presentation combining traditional dance and folk-inspired court dance of the Baroque and Regency eras (18th-early 19th c).

Special guest Catherine Turocy, director of the New York Baroque Dance Company, will be presenting workshops on Baroque Dance popular in America (the Virginia Minuet), teaching the Allemande from Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s Le Devin du Village, and giving an
overview of the dances commonly found in French Suites (e.g., gavotte, bourrée, rigaudon) and Jean-Christophe Denis will be teaching traditional versions that were the inspiration for many of the Entertainments at Court.

Dress Code is casual during the day ; on Saturday evening, you have the option of Court Attire (Baroque / Regency) or Traditional (French / Scottish).

French Institute members get a discount using the code IFE5OFF and that the Sunday workshop is a masterclass, so observers are welcome as well as dancers.
