From 1–19 October 2025, the Edinburgh Spanish Film Festival returns for its 12th edition. Since its launch in 2013, the festival has been dedicated to showcasing the cultural richness and diversity of Spanish cinema, while also shining a spotlight on outstanding films from across Latin America. One screening will be held at the Institut français d’Écosse : Pheasant Island (La isla de los faisanes), a 2025 Spanish-French fictional film directed by Asier Urbieta about the real-life phenomenon of Pheasant Island, a small islet in the Bidasoa River that changes sovereignty between Spain and France every six months.
Other versions of the festival will take place in Glasgow, Stirling, Tranent and Inverness during the month.
